about

I originally wrote this piece in March of 2012, on a Wednesday in fact. The music was intended to imitate my frenetic improvisational style, but within some structure. After 2/3 of the piece was written, it went into the desk drawer, until I pulled it out in August 2020 and finished writing it. I recorded it not long after, choosing to add bass as a way to ground the rhythm. Looking back, the irony is that the COVID-19 pandemic made its first real impact in the United States on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, when the National Basketball League was the first sports league (and the first business of significant size) to shut down. Perhaps this piece, written back in 2012, was predicting what was to come beginning on a certain Wednesday in March, 2020.

As for why I have a piece titled "A Saturday in March" (with the article at the beginning) and another piece titled "Wednesday in March" (without the article), I don't know. I took to referring to the other piece also without the article, until I started copyrighting and compiling recording tracks, when I put the "a" back in. Then, after all was said and done, I came to this piece and saw that there was no "a." Oh well.

This track was created and mixed in GarageBand. I doubled the piano part with two piano patches and added a bass guitar line or two for effect.
