I wrote this in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, which hit Houston, TX in September 2008. This was written to be somewhat programmatic, chronicling the anticipation of the hurricane's landfall, followed by an increase in windspeed and intensity until it reaches its climax. There isn't an "eye of the hurricane" moment in this piece, but it ends with the aftermath of the storm after it has passed on to its next location. This piece takes place during a season when my composing was at its most Neoclassical and chromatic.
This track was created as a music file in Finale which uses Garritan instruments. Piano samples used in this recording are from the Garritan Authorized Steinway Library.
