Even though I have a copious amount of Scandinavian in my family bloodline, and even though I went to a Scandinavian college for my music studies, I would say I've only really written one piece that has sounded even remotely Scandinavian. That is this piece. It very loosely follows an A-B-A-C-B'-A'-Coda structure, and loosely follows the pentatonic minor scale in the melody for the main themes. Just like the Scots and the Irish, the Scandinavians also have their fiddle music, and I imagine that some of the concerts and music gatherings I attended that showcased this music played a role.
Sadly, I almost have never listened to Edvard Grieg's music, and am familiar with almost none of it, aside from "In the Hall of the Mountain King" and the opening to his Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16.
This track was created as a music file in Finale which uses Garritan instruments. Piano samples used in this recording are from the Garritan Authorized Steinway Library.
