The spirit of this album is found in Proverbs 13:12: "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life." (New International Version)
One of my band members recently gave me some words of wisdom: life is something that eventually we just "get used to." However, depending on the person, to someone this truth may be utterly unreasonable. Many of us to some degree or another have lived a life of unimaginable pain to the point that it's unfathomable to get used to it, let alone conquer the world as an adult as it was promised would happen.
The point of this album is to offer hope. Life is full of joy, grief, pain, anger, fullness, and emptiness, among other things. But for some reason or another, life takes away people, places, and things that had been dear to us. But the good news is, it doesn't have to stay that way. There is a One who is greater who, although He often allows bad things to happen, He also gives us a place to really rest and fill up before attempting to conquer the world again.
I improvised these four tracks months ago, sometime after I came across the quote from Proverbs above. Their names, "Fulfillment," "Deferment and resistance," "Longing," and "Grief and hope" are all part of the entirety of our lives. There is no joy and fulfillment without pain and deferment, and vice versa.
I also realize it's been awhile since I've put music online. I will share that the well of creativity is a lot deeper and fuller than it was last time, and that more creations will be shared much sooner than it has in the past.
Final note: The album cover is a picture I took of a tree at the Conference Point Center in Williams Bay, Wisconsin.
