This track was improvised in Sonata form, much like “Allentown Symphony” from “Fading Purple Sky”. Sonata form inspires me on many levels: 1.) it’s a form; there’s structure. 2.) relationship of the keys; 3.) the “journey” aspect. This track earned the moniker “Happiest Day of the Year” because I recorded this immediately after something wonderful happened in my life, something that, at the time, seemed to me like it would lead to something even more wonderful. What strikes me, years later, is how I seemed to understand and experience happiness at the time. I like to think that my joy today would be expressed in lighter tones.
