about

If it looks like this album is missing something, that's because, as of the release date, it is. This album is unfortunately currently incomplete. The plan is to write 2 more movements to my Piano Sonata No. 4 in C and get them uploaded, but the timing of that is yet to be determined. As of now, life is both in flux and requiring immediate and constant action. The fact that I'm setting aside time to write something for this release is dangerous enough.

I'll cut to the chase: each of the four present movements were written in response to an extended time of trial preceding the current one. Because of my faith and trust in Jesus Christ however, I choose to have hope. It's why Piano Sonata No. 4 starts in C minor and ends in the parallel major, all in the same movement. Although in Minimalist Piano Sonata No. 1 the first movement stays in minor, the third movement begins and ends in the parallel major. My wish for both of these sonatas (minimalist or not) is that these bring people hope. Although the trials I face are very difficult, I also know that so many people are facing very similar challenges. And far too often in music (whether Classical, neoClassical, jazz, rock, or modern pop, etc) we see the music not really lift people up.

I've said it before on another album, and I'll say it again here: I believe this is God's music, truly inspired by Him. He does allow me to make decisions on what notes and rhythms I want to write, and how I want to voice it, but I also try to make an intentional habit of writing down what I hear, as I hear it, as much as possible. I've been blessed to be able to write music for as long as I have because of Him and because of His Holy Spirit inspiration.

As of this album's release, I've composed about 2/3 of the 2nd movement for Piano Sonata No. 4. I also have a couple of isolated sketches that could work for the 3rd movement, but nothing has come together as of yet. Due to the anticipated busyness of the next season, I don't anticipate completing those anytime soon.

One minor thing that gives me some comfort despite this album's incompleteness: the total time between the four tracks tallies to 43 minutes and 22 seconds. Not bad.

[Disclaimer: obviously, once I get the other tracks uploaded sometime in the future, this album notes blurb will change a bit.]
